Are You Allergic To Exercising?

We all know that certain foods and environmental substances can trigger an allergic reaction on our skin that we call ‘hives.’ These allergic reactions are manifested in red blotches on the skin that can be extremely itchy. Often topical or internal antihistamines are administered to counteract the reaction. But did you know that some people are actually allergic to exercising? No, you can’t use this as an excuse to get out of those healthful cardiovascular exercises you are supposed to be doing to strengthen your heart or drop a few pounds. We are talking about a very real condition that many people actually suffer from.

It is felt that allergic dermatitis, or hives as it is commonly referred to, is brought about by the increased temperature on the skin. When the skin becomes overheated an itchy rash may develop. It is most usually seen on the abdomen, chest or back but you can actually have an outbreak anywhere on the body. In very rare cases the throat can swell, and in a very small percent of those cases the throat can close altogether resulting in death. Again, this is extremely rare, but if you are prone to allergic reactions it is suggested that you carry an epi-pen when exercising and never exercise alone.

While there are a number of OTC pharmaceuticals available, there are also natural substances that are known to provide natural antihistamine action. Two of the natural supplements commonly used for their antihistaminic properties are Butterbur and Mangosteen. Butterbur is available as an oral supplement and Mangosteen is available in capsule form or sold as a juice.
