anxietyEveryone suffers from anxiety at some point or the other. As a matter of fact, anxiety keeps us motivated and focused up to a certain extent. But, when irrational and extreme anxiety dominates all aspects of life, it becomes a crippling disorder. There are several types of anxiety disorders

Generalized Anxiety Disorder
This condition is marked by extreme anxiety and panic even when there is no trigger. People with this condition are always worried about health, money, family issues, work etc. Physical symptoms of the condition include nausea, headaches, muscle aches, trembling, sweating, and frequent trips to the bathroom.

Obsessive Compulsive Disorder
This term refers to repetitive behaviors and unwanted thoughts. People who have this condition have persistent unnecessary anxiety over something and resort to rituals to deal with it. For instance, some people tend to wash their hands over and over, others tend to arrange items in a particular fashion, and some tend to count everything they come across.

Panic Disorder
This is characterized by a sudden onset of fear accompanied by trembling, sweating, weakness, dizziness, chest pain etc. Panic attacks can happen anytime, anywhere without warning.

Post-Traumatic Stress disorder
People who have lived through a dangerous event often face this problem. They tend to feel anxious and panicky even when there is no need to do so.

Social Anxiety Disorder
This condition is characterized by a fear of social situations. Physical symptoms like sweating, blushing, speech difficulties etc also occur. People who have this disorder may avoid socializing altogether.

Anxiety disorders can be upsetting, but they can be treated effectively by psychotherapy and pharmaceutical therapy.
