How To Prevent Dry Cough in Children

Dry cough is a type of cough where there is no production of mucus and phlegm and it is also known as unproductive cough. In most of the cases dry cough in children is associated with some symptoms of underlying medical conditions so its ignorance may cause trouble later on.

A child suffering from dry cough may complain about difficulty in swallowing food or water as the irritation of the tonsils and larynx occurs. A child with this type of cough may also sound different than that of his usual tone. Other symptoms include cravings for more liquid, change in behavior with increased agitation and irritability. One of the most common reasons for the occurrence of dry cough in children is common cold. Other reasons may include asthma, whooping cough, pollution, laryngitis, allergy, post nasal drip, pneumonia, sinus and many others.

The remedy for dry cough in children should not involve too much of medication. Effective home remedies are the best option for treating this problem without posing any adverse side effects.

The mixture of crushed basil leaves and honey should be given at the time of the cough which proves to be very effective. The mixture of honey with turmeric powder is also very effective for cleaning the congestion of the chest and improves breathing. Keeping the body hydrated is also helpful in treating dry cough as it keeps the level of body fluids up. Other effective remedies may include intake of green tae, herbal tea, paste of soaked almonds, including ginger and garlic in food and gargle with saline lukewarm water. Dry cough is uncomfortable for the child and if it is left untreated for a long period of time it can also lead to chronic dry cough.
