Natural Remedies For Hangovers
Written By: admin in General Health on November 20, 2009Well, the obvious suggestion would be not to go out and get drunk, but since it’s too late for that let’s look at what you can do to counteract the ill effects as quickly as possible so you can get on about your day after. Probably the two most unpleasant parts of a hangover are the nausea and the headache. The headache is easy. Take an aspirin and in a few minutes the pounding will stop. But the nausea, that’s another matter altogether.
Some naturopaths advocate taking Lupulus Humulus which is really kind of ironic. It is said to treat nausea which is related to the nervous system. What makes it funny is that Lupulus Humulus is the fancy Latin name for hops. And we all know that hops is used in the brewing of beer. Maybe those alcoholics who say the best remedy for a hangover is a quick shot of booze are not too far off base! Well, I don’t advocate taking another shot to cure too many shots the day before, but hey, if they say hops works than give it your best shot. Pardon the pun.
Then there is Lobelia Inflata which is used to treat nausea and vomiting, and Nux Vomica which is native to India and is also used to treat nausea and abdominal pain. Some people like to use rice water and ginger root. Although this is commonly used by the Chinese to treat morning sickness in pregnant women, it does effectively treat other forms of nausea as well.
One other piece of advice that is probably worth mentioning is that you should replenish your electrolytes as soon as possible if you have been vomiting. There are mineral supplements that would be beneficial and there are sports drinks that also serve to replenish electrolytes. Sorry, can’t help you stop the room from spinning but this should help you with the rest of it. Good luck, and hope you feel better soon.
