Supplements Can Treat Vitamin and Iron Deficient Anemia

For so many years we have heard the terms anemia and iron poor blood used almost interchangeably. While this is the most common cause of anemia, it is by far not the only cause. In fact, vitamin deficiency as well as mineral deficiency can result in anemia. There are, in fact, literally hundreds of forms of anemia. Many are genetic and/or chronic which require the services of physicians and very specialized treatments. Iron deficient and vitamin deficient anemia can be treated with supplements for the most part.

Some of the symptoms of anemia are fatigue, weakness, lightheadedness, pallor, irritability, lack of appetite, weight loss and the inability to focus. Understand that these issues may be symptomatic of other illnesses or conditions as well. If you experience any of these symptoms repeatedly or over a period of time it is always advisable to consult your doctor and get an exact diagnosis. If you have anemia due to an iron deficiency or vitamin deficiency your doctor will probably prescribe supplements for you to take.

The causes for iron deficient or vitamin deficient anemia vary widely, but some known causes are an iron poor diet, pregnancy, menstruation, endurance training, frequent blood donation, certain foods and drugs, and digestive issues such as Crohn’s Disease.

Vitamins B12 and B9 are needed to make red blood cells which transport oxygen throughout the body. And, without iron the body isn’t able to produce sufficient hemoglobin for red blood cells. Supplementation of the B complex of vitamins and a mineral complex with iron are often used in nutraceuticals to build up the red blood cell count.
