Tips To Aid In Good Digestion
Written By: admin in General Health on November 30, 2009It is imperative to have a healthy digestive system for many reasons. Of course we all know that it is impossible to stay healthy if we are not getting sufficient nutrients from the foods we eat. Many people take vitamin and mineral supplements to ensure themselves that they are getting sufficient nutrients. There is a school of thought that contends supplementation is unnecessary if we eat healthy foods in the proper combination so that adequate nutrients are digested into the system.
Probably the most well known “tip” to facilitate digestion is to eat a high-fiber diet consisting of fresh fruits, vegetables and grains. Proponents of the food combining theory further state that fruits should never be eaten with proteins such as meat or cheese. They further contend that fruits not be mixed with other starches or carbs either. Food combining is increasingly coming to the forefront as a method to aid and maintain proper digestion. There is much reading material out there online, as well as in local health food stores and libraries, that can teach you the basic principles involved.
Enough cannot be said about drinking plenty of water. Think about your toilet. What do you use to flush it? Water, of course! Your digestive tract is like a biological toilet. If waste material is allowed to sit there for any length of time in putrefies and grows all kinds of nasty, disease causing germs. Flush you system daily with plenty of water.
Exercise and adequate rest also play an integral part in the digestive system. A strong, healthy body is better able to metabolize foods that are ingested. Also, by being well rested your body has the energy necessary for metabolism to take place. Also, be as relaxed as possible when eating. Eat in pleasant, stress-free environments. If you follow these basic guidelines you can think of it this way, “Eat, Drink and be Merry.”
