Treat Your Child’s Cuts And Scrapes Naturally
Written By: admin in General Health on November 20, 2009Every time a child falls and skins a knee or gets a cut or scrape parents are programmed to react in a ritual that not only makes the child feel better, but we feel better as well.
I think the psychology behind ‘kiss and make it better’ is more for the parents than it is for the child because we want to know that we are protecting them from hurts. The kiss is good. Your child feels better cos they have been psyched into thinking the kiss is magical and mom feels better cos she was there for her child. It’s the OTHER parts of the ritual that might not be so great.
The first thing a parent reaches for is an antiseptic to cleanse the cut. That’s not so awfully bad but what comes next is probably the WORST thing you can do. We all do it. After the wound is cleansed we reach for the antibiotic ointment. WRONG! Don’t do it! Medical research is now saying that the reason there are so many superbugs out there that are resistant to antibiotics is because we use it for EVERYTHING even when it isn’t necessary.
MRSA is a potentially lethal form of the staph germ that is mutating even as you are reading this. It has grown to be highly resistant to even the most potent of antibiotics because it has learned to identify them and mutate so it will not be susceptible to them. Whoever said DNA doesn’t have a brain?
After you have cleansed your child’s boo-boo, try an herbal remedy to prevent infection. Just to name a few that you may wish to research there are marigold, tea tree and lavender. And that’s only the beginning. Aloe Vera gel promotes healing and prevents scarring as well as infections. If at all possible stay away from antibiotic salves and ointments because you are leaving the door open for more serious complications later on.
